Drone Footage Shows Collapse of Highway 1 Near Big Sur
A stretch of Highway 1 along the Big Sur coast in Monterey County washed away Thursday after being hit by a debris flow off a hillside following heavy rains. That portion of the scenic road had already been closed as part of a 44-mile closure due to the county’s evacuation order ahead of the rain. It was immediately unclear if the debris flow that is eroding this portion of Highway 1 was connected to the Dolan Fire burn scar, although the area has been susceptible to mudslides in the past.
